Work at Shadow Lake

Our Staff

Camp Staff, Summer 2022.

Every summer, we employ over 80 college, university and high school students to work at our camp. A solid team ensures that our guests have a safe and truly memorable camp experience.

Counsellors are assigned to work with guests in small groups. Our staff-to-camper ratio ranges from 1:1 to 1:5. There are a limited number of spaces available to guests requiring either 1:1 or 1:2 supervision.

In addition to our camp counsellors, we have activity leaders, lifeguards, crafts instructors, healthcare workers, meal planners, maintenance, and housekeeping staff. All our staff are supervised by our camp coordinators and counselling supervisors.

Prior to the first day of camp, all staff participate in a week-long training program. Everyone is required to obtain a police check prior to starting work.

“One of my favourite things at camp is reliving memories with our guests from past summers. I love when guests remind me of the fun and goofy things we did, like hiding and jumping out at another counsellor, or singing and dancing the entire pond trail walk.” — Kaylee, Senior Camp Coordinator

“Working at Shadow Lake throughout the years has taught me a vast amount of valuable lessons and skills, helped me grow in all aspects of myself, and has given me some of the most precious relationships with both guests and coworkers that I’ve ever had in my life. Despite the challenges that can often come with this job, I feel like SLC has always been one of the safest places to step out of your comfort zone and push yourself to do and be better. It’s truly one of a kind opportunity and experience to work, and I am forever changed for the better by my time here!” — Cece, Counselling Coordinator
